Fan dies after fall at Reliant Stadium

See, this stuff really happens...
August 30, 2012
HOUSTON – A man fell from an escalator at Reliant Stadium during an NFL preseason game on Thursday, and a local TV station reported that he has died from his injuries.
The incident occurred during the third quarter of the Houston Texans’ game against the Minnesota Vikings. Reliant Park released a statement confirming an unidentified man had fallen from an escalator and had been transported to a local hospital; CBS Houston soon reported the man died. A spokesman with the Houston Police Department could not confirm any details to FOX Sports Southwest. An eyewitness, however, told FS Southwest he didn’t believe the man could have survived.
“There’s no way he would have lived,” said the witness, who asked his name not be used.
CBS Houston reported the victim was attempting to slide down the handrail when he fell, and that alcohol was believed to be a factor.
The witness who spoke to FS Southwest said the fallen man was a few feet behind him on the escalator when he fell. The witness heard a “loud thud” on the concrete, causing a chorus of screams. He said others who looked over the rail recoiled in horror, while others documented the incident on their camera phones.
“Instantly we knew what really happened,” said the witness, who ran to alert authorities.

Woman's Dress Caught - Boyfriend Watches Nonchalantly

It is not only children who get their shoes dangerously stuck in the gaps at the sides of escalators. Even grown-ups like this woman in her long white dress that do it, as STOMPer Antonio witnessed yesterday at Raffles City.

He saw the woman struggling frantically as her long dress got snagged in the gap at the side of the elevator leading up from the Raffles Place Marketplace.

It was the fast action of the shopping mall’s maintenance people that was impressive, contrasting sharply with her Caucasian boyfriend, who appeared either extremely calm or extremely useless (depending on how you want to view the situation).

He just stood idly by as the Raffles City maintenance men fetched scissors to cut the snagged hem of the long dress.

It wasn’t an easy task as the hem had bunched up, making it thought to cut through. In the midst of all this, the boyfriend just stood aside, probably he was embarrassed by the attention and the stares of the crowd watching the entire thing. At one point, he was even reading a brochure.

“So useless! What happened to chivalry? He should have taken the scissors, got down to his knees and start snipping away,” said Antonio.

After about 15 minutes, the scissors did its job and the woman was free.

Here’s a warning to all women from Antonio: ‘If you wear a long dress, stand in the middle of he escalator. Of course, if you want to avoid this, wear shorts, which is why shorts is so popular amongst Singapore women — and the guys love it as well.’

For Real?

Is there even a need for an escalator here? If god forbid I ever fall off an escalator, I hope that it's this one. And I hope that it is also made out of rubber and bounces me into some type of moon bounce or mattress so that I am unharmed and emotionally unscathed.
